Stranges Building - Project
219 - 223 High Street
Year of Construction: 2014
The Stranges Building was one of the first new commercial buildings to be constucted in central Christchurch. It was offically opened by the Prime Minister on 17 April 2014.
The three-storey, 1500 square metre building was designed by Sheppard and Rout and built by Leighs Construction to meet 188 percent of the new building code.
It consists of three levels, with a central oval core that is crucial to the building's strength. A unique mezzanine area gives additional space to tenants based on the ground floor. A series of laneways connect to a large courtyard area, creating a hospitality hub between Stranges, Bonnington House and the new Glendenning Hill Building.
The company is very fond of the Stranges Building and purchased the original property twice; first in 2004 and then again in 2010. It was sadly destroyed by the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes.
