Stranges Building - New
219 - 223 High Street

Christchurch

Year of Construction: 2014

The three-storey, 1500 square metre Stranges Building was designed by Sheppard and Rout and built by Leighs Construction to meet 188 percent of the new building code.

It consists of three levels, with a central oval core that changes colour at night. This core is crucial to the building's strength. A unique mezzanine area gives additional space to tenants based on the ground floor. A series of laneways connect to a large courtyard, creating a hospitality hub between the Stranges Building, Bonnington House and the new Glendenning Hill Building.

Leighs Construction became the first tenants in early 2014. The building also houses the I.T. Team, RCP, Peddle Thorp and Nucleus bar. Three bars and eateries run by Britomart Hospitality opened in August: Orleans, Strange and Co. and the Lower 9th Diner.

The company is very fond of the Stranges Building and purchased the original property twice; first in 2004 and then again in 2010. It was sadly destroyed by the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes.
