The original shops had served the community for 100 years before the 2011 quakes took them out.

Canform Structures and Architect, Andrew Evans created a modern but fitting replacement with the use of timber steel and a roof that also acts as a veranda for Stockman Group.

The design and construction resulted in a bronze award at the Master Builder’s Awards in 2017.

The replacement Opawa shops are now the home of Restaurant Indian Heaven and other service shops for the community.

Situated in the vibrant neighbourhood of the long established Opawa Village, surrounded by leafy streets and character homes, the replacement should easily do another 100 years of service.
